Crash landing on Shark’s Tooth Golf Course

July 24, 2020 by Tony Weedn 6 Comments

Ten years ago today I crash landed an airplane on Shark’s Tooth Golf Course in Florida. It’s amazing to think it has already been ten years since this happened. The story behind this life-changing event has a great testimony of Faith, Unity, Love and Life (FULL) and I thought I would share. It is interesting that these four things spell the word FULL, because full is what the life of everyone involved in the crash has become. I know most don’t like reading really long blog posts, so I will try my best to make this as short as I can. If you just want to read the news story about the crash landing, you can read it here.

Justin and Rose Langham

This testimony begins with Justin and Rose Langham. You see, I met Justin and Rose at the same time they both met; our first week of college at Oklahoma Christian University. Justin and Rose fell in love and were married just 6 months prior to my wife and me. Tragically, on Valentine’s Day 2010, Rose passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm. During this trial, Justin was in the Air Force and stationed in Florida as well–just a few short miles away from where I was stationed–but neither of us knew this. We soon got in contact and began to spend a lot of time together. My wife was away finishing her final semester of nursing school, and Justin was going through the hardest trial of his life, so as any good friend would do, I just tried to spend quality time with him doing things that made him smile. One of the things he always wanted to do was fly an airplane, so that’s what we did. Justin and I would rent planes from the Destin airport and fly up and down the beach or maybe do a lunch-and-back to Dauphin Island airport.

An Ode to America written by Cornel Nistorescu

An Ode to America written by Cornel Nistorescu

Excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper published after the 9/11 attack on America.

We rarely get a chance to see another country’s editorial about the USA.

Read this excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper.  The article was written by Mr.  Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title ‘C’ntarea Americii, meaning ‘Ode To America ‘) in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei ‘The Daily Event’ or ‘News of the Day’;

~An Ode to America ~

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs. Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart.

Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the Army, or the Secret Service that they are only a bunch of losers.
Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts.
Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about.
Instead the Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag.  They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing.  On every occasion, they started singing: ‘God Bless America!’

I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes.  And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put into a collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their history? Their economic Power? Money?

I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace, I thought things over, I reached but only one conclusion…  Only freedom can work such miracles.

Ever had a beer with a priest?

August 30, 2019 by Tony Weedn 4 Comments

beer with a priest

This past week I was on a business trip to Montgomery, Alabama when my friend Tim and I went to a bar and grill called Tower Taproom. For the entrepreneurs and innovators out there you would love what they have done and there is some great opportunity in this al a cart setup. They had 46 taps, 42 of which were different types of beer, 4 were wines and 2 were waters and you paid by the ounce. Check out pour my beer to learn more.

I honestly cannot stand the taste of beer or coffee for that fact. They are both acquired tastes and apparently I’m not very acquired. Anyways I thought with 42 beers on tap there must be one that I might like the taste of and you can get as much or as little as you like. So I found a very fruity one that tasted like apple cider and I sat down and chatted with Tim while we waited on our food.

The loss of a friend has me writing again

August 12, 2019 by Tony Weedn 10 Comments

In late July 2019 my friend, and brother in Christ, went missing while hiking in the Colorado mountains. His name was Lt Col Daniel Wallick. After a few days of searching his body was found on Challenger mountain and the Custer County Search and Rescue risked their lives to bring him down from the mountain back to his family.

Jesus’ Birthday?

December 25, 2013 by admin Leave a Comment

I grew up not really celebrating Christmas as the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I grew up celebrating Christmas as a time for family and friends to spend time together and bless each other with gifts. However this year was a bit different. [Read more…] about Jesus’ Birthday?
